We are excited to share that our paper, "InfoAlign: A Human–AI Co-Creation System for Storytelling with Infographics", has been accepted at CHI'26 (ACM CHI Conference on Human Factors in Computing Systems)!
Infographics are a powerful way to communicate complex information, but designing them is challenging, requiring clear storytelling, effective visuals, and coherent layouts.
In this work, we explore how human–AI collaboration can support this process. Based on interviews with infographic designers, we identify three key steps: story structuring (organizing a narrative), visual design (creating charts, icons, and highlights), and layout arrangement (guiding the reader through the story).
Building on this workflow, we developed InfoAlign, a human–AI co-creation system that supports the entire design process. It transforms unstructured text into storytelling infographics while preserving the user’s intent, allowing users to refine the story, visuals, and layout at every step.
A user study with 12 participants shows that InfoAlign helps maintain story consistency, enables effective human–AI collaboration through iterative refinement, and improves efficiency in creating engaging, narrative-driven infographics.
Overall, this work emphasizes infographic design as a continuous storytelling process and demonstrates how AI can support it without replacing human creativity.
