We are happy to share that Laura Koesten, PI of the Talking Charts project, has been interviewed by Markus Hengstschläger about her work in the program Spontan gefragt.
This interview was featured in an article of the newsmagazine Profil by Kurier Medienhaus, titled "Von Macht oder Ohnmacht der Bilder" on April 27th, 2024. It shows the complexities of visual communication in our modern era. Together with the caricaturist Michael Pammesberger (Kurier), Laura Koesten discussed the use of images and charts and how information is conveyed visually, highlighting both the similarities and differences between art and science.
With her expertise in computer science and human data interaction, as well as her focus on effective data communication, Laura emphasized the importance of understanding the intentions behind visual content and ensuring that messages resonate with diverse audiences. In a world filled with data and visual stimuli, clarity, transparency, and the subjective experiences of the reader are guiding principles for effective data communication.
In the interview, the attendees talked about common pitfalls and considerations as well as no-gos of data visualization design and the creation of caricatures. Additionally, the discussion extended to the role of artificial intelligence as a potential substitute and its impact on their own work.
Congratulations, Laura, on the publication of this thought-provoking article and the interview!
